AI overviews in search results – This space replaces traditional Google top lists with an overview section, stripping away traditional hyperlinks and clickthrough to websites. This algorithm update will benefit the user but hurt the properties listed at the top of the page. The clients will eventually see reduced search traffic to the website and a relative reduction in conversions.

AI Overview visual search—initially available for dining and shopping, it will also expand to hotels. Again, these top panels will help the curious user but push our clients’ traditional hyperlinks to the lower part of the page.

To appear in the overviews, you must develop a distinct strategy tailored to this new environment. It’s a whole new game.

Here are some things we can do now to improve our chances of getting included:

  1. We should now restructure our copy as questions and direct answers. Every site also needs an FAQ page to help with this metric. Generate a list of frequently asked questions by visitors.
  2. To showcase on a featured snippet:
    – On the website, write definitions/descriptions for industry terms [like casual dining, beach resort, etc.].
    – Summarize a process like booking a hotel room or table, etc.
    – Upload videos and images supporting visual search queries.
  3. Use writing AI assistant tools like Elementor copy plugin for WordPress or Grammarly. Write quality schema markups.
  4. Track search volume for queries exhibiting AI overviews and answer those queries on our websites.
  5. Add Quora and Reddit to your social media strategy  (Q & A platforms). These platforms have seen increased traffic through Google.
